I have been trying to get my content and the application (back-end) up and running for what I think will be a brilliant mobile site. I still haven't found an equivalent, but I have run into a few more stumbling blocks.
I have decided to release the site with no user-interaction for the first release. I have much planned, but I thought I would start to get some content available and start spreading the word. I have some really grand ideas, but I am having a few issues....
1) Trying to use Ajax while sending content as "application".... is proving quite a challenge. I know this this pretty high level for mobile phones, but I know some of this stuff actually works when you send content as "text".
2) I want to add location based services to the site. The problem is
a) I don't know too much about it and
b) I need to sell this idea to potential advertisers.....
I think this has great potential, though low margin initially as the products are fairly inexpensive,
but I believe that potential retails may be very interested in tapping into the market that is potentially walking
right past their door....
Time will tell I suppose.
If there is anyone out there that has an insight into this area, please get into touch.
Or if you are interested in potential partnership....
So I have been trying to get my new mobile site up and running. Of course at this stage I should be concentrating on the back-end and how the application side of things work. However I just can't help wondering what the site looks like on a mobile phone - principally the N95 8GB.
So, thanks to the wonder of wireless I have been able to test my site a little on my phone over my local wireless network. One thing really bugs me though. The horizontal scrolling. It is so hard to get rid of!! I have, currently but I haven't tested in depth yet to see what element actually causes this.
I normally for mobile devices use margins and padding set to 0 on most elements, but the phone doesn't seem to obey this rules all the time. Is it just me or is it temperamental..?
I have about 50 mobile sites bookmarked on my phone, but most of them have some horizontal scrolling which is a bit annoy - not least that the <div>'s don't fill the page when you scroll. BBC is a prime example. I mean, I love that site but why does it have to scroll..
I am sure that this doesn't happen on all phones but it is surely such a minor thing to fix within the rendering engine?? Does anyone know why this happens? Or what elements actually cause this? Does it happen on other phones?
Stay tuned for the mobile site though :D
I have decided to start a little blog. I don't know how often I will update it,
but since it is integrated into my phone I might as well give it a try.
on The mobile site is ongoing
