Creating a mobile site
So I have been trying to get my new mobile site up and running. Of course at this stage I should be concentrating on the back-end and how the application side of things work. However I just can't help wondering what the site looks like on a mobile phone - principally the N95 8GB.
So, thanks to the wonder of wireless I have been able to test my site a little on my phone over my local wireless network. One thing really bugs me though. The horizontal scrolling. It is so hard to get rid of!! I have, currently but I haven't tested in depth yet to see what element actually causes this.
I normally for mobile devices use margins and padding set to 0 on most elements, but the phone doesn't seem to obey this rules all the time. Is it just me or is it temperamental..?
I have about 50 mobile sites bookmarked on my phone, but most of them have some horizontal scrolling which is a bit annoy - not least that the <div>'s don't fill the page when you scroll. BBC is a prime example. I mean, I love that site but why does it have to scroll..
I am sure that this doesn't happen on all phones but it is surely such a minor thing to fix within the rendering engine?? Does anyone know why this happens? Or what elements actually cause this? Does it happen on other phones?
Stay tuned for the mobile site though :D
